Save The Children

We need an experienced and motivating leader to generate change for children in the Pacific! Take on the challenge of working in one of the most complex places on earth, by leading the ground-breaking work we do in Papua New Guinea, as well as advancing the overall Pacific Strategy and overseeing our Vanuatu and Solomon Islands country operations.

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia and overseas and, if there's a disaster - like an earthquake, drought or conflict - we are there on the ground.

Where you come in:

In this full-time, permanent position based in either our Port Moresby or Brisbane office, you will fulfil a dual function of Country Director for PNG as well as provide strategic direction and guidance across the Pacific. As a part of our International Programs Team, you will report to our Executive Director, International Programs and lead a dynamic team of Directors to develop and implement our portfolio of programs across the Pacific.

You will make an impact by:

  • Advancing strategy and plans to execute quality program activities in PNG and across the Pacific.
  • Leading and inspiring a team of Directors to drive a culture of high performance and results orientation.
  • Developing relationships with key government stakeholders to influence policy change.
  • Drive business development to maximise donor contribution to our programs.
  • Managing the overall development of budgets and provide oversight across the 3 Pacific operations.
  • Promoting a culture of safety and child protection across all activities.

If we could compose the perfect you…

… Your understanding of the social, economic and political issues of PNG and the Pacific region, partnered with your outstanding leadership skills, sees you drive your team to deliver immediate and lasting results. You have a passion to build capability of national staff across the breadth of the organisation. You have experience of international development projects, leading sophisticated business development strategies and a natural adaptability. You are experienced with finance, quality and monitoring. You are questioning, passionate and always looking to advance your work despite a challenging context.

This role requires:

  • Extensive senior management experience in a development and/or humanitarian context.
  • Demonstrated experience securing innovative, large-scale development projects including areas like health, education and/or child protection.
  • Strong experience developing and managing large scale budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience of quality project planning, monitoring and reporting.
  • The resilience and personal circumstances to be able to travel within the country and internationally as required.

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job.

It's the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same. We offer a competitive salary including generous salary packaging benefits, a friendly and flexible work environment, and great career opportunities - both locally and internationally.
