Save the Children Australia is one of the nation's leading child rights organisations. As Media Manager, you will help maintain Save the Children Australia's position as the nation's leading voice for and with children. Using the media - print, broadcast, online, social and new media - you will advocate for the most vulnerable children at home and abroad, particularly in the Pacific, and will ensure Save the Children continues to be the go-to agency in humanitarian crises.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia and overseas and, if there's a disaster - like an earthquake, drought or conflict - we are there on the ground.

Where you come in:

In this full-time permanent position, based in Carlton, you will continue to position Save the Children Australia as the nation's leading children's agency in both humanitarian emergencies and development, and as an authoritative voice on issues affecting vulnerable children in Australia and overseas. You will be part of our Campaigns and Public Affairs team and report to our Head of Media.

You will make an impact by:

  • Developing proactive and reactive media stories to support real change in the lives of children
  • Drafting and pitching crisp press releases, op-eds, letters to editor and other media collateral, helping secure high-profile media coverage
  • Developing and implementing creative media strategies to engage on issues related to vulnerable children at home and overseas
  • Driving media interest and potentially deploying to critical humanitarian emergencies
  • Developing innovative ways to launch reports and support campaigns through the media
  • Co-managing Save the Children Australia's official News Twitter feed
  • Using your connections with journalists and producers to drive all the above activities

If we could compose the perfect you…

…You seek to work in a collaborative and supportive environment, where your innovation and creative approaches are valued and you're always striving to break new ground. A keen 'nose for news', you combine passion with an understanding of how to utilise traditional, new and social media to tell empowering and authentic stories.

This role requires:

  • Journalistic skills with at least three years of media and / or public relations experience
  • Successful experience pitching and writing for the media including op-eds
  • The ability to articulate complex issues and adapt them for a variety of audiences
  • Skills to build and maintain media networks at a national, regional and local level
  • Willingness to deploy overseas, and be on-call on weekends and during holidays
