Are you handy with a hammer and saw? We are looking for a volunteer a Maintenance Volunteer with all-rounder repair and handy-person skills to join our team.

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia and overseas and, if there's a disaster - like an earthquake, drought or conflict - we are there on the ground.

Where you come in:

Save the Children is seeking a Maintenance Volunteer to work at Save the Children's Supported Accommodation program in Ceduna, South Australia to provide support in a range of day-to-day maintenance tasks.

We'd love to hear from you if you have a few hours to spare on weekdays or weekends, either weekly/fortnightly/monthly, or if you would be happy to help out on an ad hoc basis when maintenance issues occur.

This position is suited to someone retired, semi-retired or working full or part time who has the required skills and enjoys helping others in the community.

If you are friendly and understanding, with Save the Children Australia you will not only have an opportunity to use your skills and knowledge, but also the reward of bring a smile to a child's face.

Skills that are preferred by not essential include:

  • General all-rounder handy-person, fix-it and maintenance skills
  • General property maintenance: including the ability to fix shelves, clean windows, sweeping, adjust door locks, sticking doors and windows
  • Carpentry, tiling, painting/retouching, plastering, labouring, or handyman skills/experience is preferred but not essential
  • Gardening & outdoor maintenance: lawn mowing, weeding, landscaping, and gardening knowledge is preferred by not essential
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage your time effectively
  • Attention to detail and accuracy

All material and travel costs are reimbursed to volunteers.

This role requires:

  • General knowledge of WHS and OHAS policies
  • WWCC
  • National/International Police Check
  • Reference Check (Personal and Business)
  • Signing Save the Children Australia's Child Protection Policy and Guidelines, and a Volunteer Agreement
