Save the Children Australia'sIntensive Family Support (IFS) program provides intensive one-to-one home-based support to families in the Mount Isa region. We're looking for two experienced Family Support Workers with exceptional engagement and case management skills to help families that are struggling with a range of concerns. Using a strengths-based approach, you'll provide them with the support they need, at the time they need it.

Where you come in:

In this full-time maximum term position (until end of December 2021, with strong potential for extension), you'll develop a single case plan, often across several service providers, to achieve a coordinated approach to supporting vulnerable families where children's safety and wellbeing are at risk. Reporting to the Team Leader and based in Mount Isa, this role also involves occasional travel in the region.

You will make an impact by:

  • Working with families to identify issues impacting on children's safety and family wellbeing
  • Supporting families to identify goals and working with families to achieve these
  • Using culturally appropriate and strengths-based approaches to support families
  • Actively encouraging vulnerable, detached or fearful families to engage with our programs
  • Building and maintaining strong networks and referral pathways

This role requires:

  • Demonstrated case management and outreach experience
  • Experience in conducting safety and risk assessments, family support and intervention services; focusing on child neglect and domestic violence
  • Demonstrated understanding of child protection and the child protection system in Queensland
  • Experience working within Aboriginal communities with high-risk families and complex scenarios
  • Current valid driver's licence
  • Qualification in Community Services or similar field, or significant experience working in a similar role
