Help keep us on track. As an NGO it is vital we ensure our internal processes and controls are effective in mitigating the various risks inherent in our operations, from child and staff safeguarding, to fraud and sustainability. We need your expertise to develop and lead a best-practice internal audit function and provide independent assurance to our Board, our Executive Group and our key Donors. And in doing so, you'll have an important hand in the continuation of our invaluable work improving the lives of millions of children around the world.

Where you come in:

In this part-time, permanent position, based in out Carlton* office, you will play a pivotal role in driving our internal audit function. You will lead and develop our internal audit function, to evaluate the effectiveness of the controls over our key risks; providing insightful and practical recommendations for improvements. With a direct reporting line to the Chair of the Board Audit Committee, you will also receive strong support from our Chief Financial Officer.

You will make an impact by:

  • Demonstrating an industrious attitude and effortlessly utilise internal and external resources to ensure the delivery of the agreed audit plan
  • Being a fixture for our Board Audit Committee and Board Program & Risk Committee meetings
  • Ensuring independent reporting on all relevant risk and control issues
  • Developing and establishing a risk-based audit plan
  • Being a champion for changes and new initiatives evolving risks across the whole organisation
  • Providing leadership, technical direction and oversight to audit teams in planning, fieldwork and reporting

Does this sound like you?

…You are a seasoned Internal Auditor with exposure to auditing a variety of operational, IT and financial risks across diverse locations and industries. A pragmatist, you're comfortable working with ambiguity and in highly dynamic environments and, importantly, passionate about delivering a best-practice internal audit function.

This role requires:

  • A very effective stakeholder manager and a demonstrated ability to influence change, engaging others to take part in the journey
  • A skilled negotiator and influencer who is comfortable presenting at all levels, including, executives and the board
  • A proven leader, with demonstrated ability to set and deliver technical direction and oversight to audit programs delivered primarily through partners
  • Extensive experience in a consultancy or corporate, with a broad knowledge of international auditing standards
  • Highly developed analytical skills with an ability to extract meaningful insights to assist with the enhancement of the control framework across the organisation

Position Description - Head of Internal Audit

*While COVID-19 social distancing restrictions are in place, this role works remotely (i.e. from home or an alternative location). Once the pandemic restrictions are lifted, the role will be based in our office in Carlton.
