Family Support Workers - Murrumbidgee

Save The Children

Children are facing more and more challenges to their development. We provide critical support to vulnerable children and families through a variety of programs and the facilitation of community events, and we need you to provide professional support to families with complex needs. This is your chance to help children reach their potential.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. Save the Children has been creating better lives for children in New South Wales since we opened our first pre-school in 1962. See here for more information on our work across New South Wales.

You will support children and families within our Family Connect and Support program, identify where additional assistance and external services are required, and provide information, support, and referral. Based in Wagga Wagga or Griffith (or with flexibility to work from home), you will be part of our Australian Services team and report to our Team Leader - Murrumbidgee Programs.

You will make an impact by:

  • Providing group and individual support to families from a child centred approach
  • Promoting positive parent/child relationships by role modelling, education, and practical support
  • Supporting families to access the assistance they need, when they need it
  • Actively encouraging vulnerable, detached, or fearful families to engage with our programs
  • Collecting and recording data and information for accountability, evaluation, and reporting

You're truly passionate about standing up for children. Your experience in case management roles and ability to think on your feet will see you find solutions to complex situations. Your cultural knowledge will help you build strong connections with people from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. You have empathy, a 'can-do attitude' and most importantly, an infectious enthusiasm for your job.

This role requires:

  • Demonstrated experience working with families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, especially working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander families
  • Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or relevant Human Services qualification or equivalent experience in the field

  • Proven understanding of early childhood issues and understanding of child development stages and influences
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build lasting connections
  • Driver's licence (car available for work use)

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job.
