In Tara, Save the Children provides critical support to vulnerable families.Working in our supported playgroup program, Play2Learn, you'll provide much-needed professional support to families with complex needs. In addition to Play2Learn groups, you'll offer support for families through the Early Years' Place. This is your chance to help children reach their potential.

Where you come in:

In this part-time, maximum term position (30.4 hours a week until end of June 2021, with potential for extension), you'll play a critical support role for families and children in need. You'll support children and families within our Play2Learn program and Early Years' Place, identify where additional assistance and external services are required, and provide information, support, and referrals. Based in Tara, you'll be part of our Australian Services team and report to our Senior Community Development Worker.

You will make an impact by:

  • Providing group and individual support to families from a child-centred approach
  • Promoting positive parent/child relationships by role modelling, education, and practical support
  • Supporting families to access the assistance they need, when they need it
  • Actively encouraging vulnerable, detached or fearful families to engage with our programs
  • Collecting and recording data and information for accountability, evaluation, and reporting

You're truly passionate about standing up for children. Your experience in case management roles and ability to think on your feet will see you find solutions to complex situations. Your cultural and local community knowledge will help you build strong connections with people from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. You have empathy, a 'can-do attitude' and most importantly, an infectious enthusiasm for your job.

This role requires:

  • Demonstrated experience working with families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Degree or diploma in Social Work/Community Services
  • Well-developed time management, organisational, and data collection skills
  • Proven understanding of early childhood issues and understanding of child development stages and influences
  • Exceptional communications skills and the ability to build lasting connections
  • Driver's licence
