Family Support Worker - Bairnsdale

Save The Children

Save the Children's Family Support and Early Childhood programs go out into the community across Gippsland and support vulnerable families and children to reach their full potential. We need you to help us give these children an experience of quality early childhood education and play, to develop their appetite for learning and help enable a smooth transition into school.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. More information on our work across Victoria is available here.

In this full time, fixed term position (6 months starting ideally in January 2021, with potential for extension), you'll provide support and information to parents on children's developmental issues and make appropriate referrals to other health, education and welfare agencies. You'll build rapport with families and children, identifying where additional assistance and external services are required and providing appropriate information, support and referrals. Reporting to the Team Leader and occasionally working shifts on the weekend, you'll work remotely from home when not delivering programs.

You will make an impact by:

  • Working primarily within our early childhood focused programs, including our supported playgroups and Volunteer Family Connect
  • Providing one on one supports to families with children aged 0-8 years
  • Promoting positive parent/child relationships through role modelling, education and practical support
  • Finding creative ways to encourage families to engage with our early childhood and parenting support programs and services

Finally, your cultural and local community knowledge will help you build strong connections with people from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

This role requires:
