Facilitator - Children and Youth - Mid Coast Region

Save The Children

When disasters strike, children are always the most vulnerable. That's why Save the Children stands ready to deploy, providing immediate psychosocial support and staying as long as it takes to help children and families recover from their losses, restore their lives and build their resilience for years to come. Our Journey of Hope (JoH) program works with children to help them manage the impact of COVID-19 and the 2019-2020 bushfires, led by facilitators who are professionally trained in managing child trauma.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia and overseas and, if there's a disaster - like a bushfire, earthquake, drought or conflict - we are there on the ground.

Where you come in

In this part-time, fixed term position (15.2 hours over Thursday and Friday, until April 2022, with potential for extension), you'll work in partnership with a Senior Facilitator to deliver the JoH program throughout the Mid Coast region, in areas such as Taree, Old Bar and Wingham. You'll work in collaboration with schools and early childhood providers, ensuring high quality service delivery in accordance with the agreed implementation plan. The role is based partly remotely (e.g. from home or on the road, travelling between delivery locations) and partly in schools and early learning centres.

You will make an impact by:

  • Delivering Journey of Hope sessions together with a Senior Facilitator to pre-school, primary and secondary school-aged children in the allotted geographical area, as well as running sessions with parents and caregivers
  • Ensuring quality service delivery in-line with Journey of Hope guidelines, contractual requirements and stakeholder expectations
  • Reporting concerns of participants who are suspected to be in need of mental health support
  • Consulting regularly with local communities, professionals, service providers and referral services to ensure our programs / services are meeting local needs

You respond calmly to crisis situations, and your background is in Early Years, Social Work or a similar field. Your strong interpersonal skills mean you'll work seamlessly in partnership with a Senior Facilitator, and you're committed to high standards of service delivery. You're proactive and creative, and you're comfortable working with children of all ages. Finally, you're an independent self-starter who is happy to work remotely when not delivering programs.

This role requires:

  • Demonstrated experience in working with children and families who have experienced trauma
  • Experience working in stressful and changing environments
  • High level of communication and organisational skills
  • A degree or diploma qualification in a relevant field would be desirable
  • Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to schools and early childhood providers in the region to deliver programs
