In this varied and challenging role in our DFV Support programs in Mount Isa and the Gulf region, you'll work directly with children and young people escaping domestic and family violence.

Where you come in:

In this full time, fixed term position (to end of Dec 2021, with potential to extend), you'll work as part of a team to provide coordinated support to families within the Domestic Family Violence and Court Support program and via outreach work, with a specific focus on the needs of children. You'll assist children to overcome the impact of witnessing DFV and collaborate with their carer, implementing our trauma informed child-focused framework. Working 38 hours per week Monday to Friday, you'll be flexible to work weekdays between the hours of 8.30am and 5pm.
You will make an impact by:

  • Directly supporting children and young people experiencing DFV to enjoy safer lives, conducting risk and needs assessments and providing case management support
  • Enhancing child focused practice in the region both within Save the Children and more broadly in the community
  • Connecting families with the services they need and providing appropriate referrals
  • Working in collaboration with the broader DFV team to provide support to parents and carers

Does this sound like you?

… You have experience within the domestic and family violence sector and you're passionate about children's rights. You respond well in a crisis, and you have a deep understanding of how to work with children and young people who have experienced trauma. You're able to work independently and take initiative while working within the role boundaries.

This role requires:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (Diploma in Community Services or similar as minimum requirement)
  • Solid understanding of child development and the impact of trauma on children and young people
  • Experience working with children and young people from a child-centred framework
  • Excellent cultural awareness and knowledge, including the ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
  • Current driver's licence
