Where you come in:

In this casual position, you will play a critical role supporting our Play2Learn Educator and Family Support Worker to communicate effectively by providing interpreting during group sessions, one-on-one support, and community events. Working alongside our program staff, you will be supporting parents and children's participation in program activities. You will be based in Shepparton and report to the Team Leader, Children and Families.

You will make an impact by:

  • Facilitating communications between program staff and participants by providing interpreting, along with cultural insights and understanding
  • Facilitating the building of trust and rapport with culturally and linguistically diverse clients
  • Actively encouraging vulnerable, detached, or fearful families to engage with our programs
  • Providing unbiased, objective information, support, and advocacy to program participants
  • Promoting the program to members of the community

This role requires:

  • Demonstrated experience working with families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Interpreting experience or qualification - Dari, Arabic, or Swahili
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English
  • Knowledge and/or experience working with vulnerable children and families
  • Excellent client engagement and interpersonal skills
  • A valid driver's licence
