No day is the same in Save the Children Australia's After Hours Domestic/Family Violence Response in Mount Isa. In this varied and challenging role, you'll focus on supporting the needs of people who have experienced domestic and family violence that has led to a police call-out. We need you to prioritise client safety, working predominantly with women and their children.

Where you come in:

In this casual role, you'll provide culturally appropriate, immediate support for people who have experienced domestic and/or family violence. You'll also support our specialist DV team delivering healing programs and providing ongoing support for people who have experienced domestic and family violence and/or sexual violence. You'll be based in Mount Isa, as part of the Domestic/Family Violence Services team across the Gulf, reporting to the Team Leader.

Your shifts will primarily be between the hours of Sunday-Friday 8pm-12am and Saturday 4pm-12am. There may be some requirement for rostered after hours on call and limited weekday hours by negotiation.

You will make an impact by:

  • Immediately supporting victims in need of protection following DFV police call-outs
  • Providing practical and emotional support to victims
  • Referring to specialist services when and if required
  • Routinely conducting risk assessments where domestic and family violence is identified
  • Developing strong relationships with key stakeholders

You're flexible to attend various locations, where it is safe to do so, to provide the required support to meet the needs of your clients.

This role requires:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide support services, particularly to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children
  • Understanding of relevant legislation as it relates to domestic, family and sexual violence and information sharing guidelines
  • Outstanding client engagement and interpersonal skills
  • Class C Driver's licence
