Established in 2009, Satellite is a non-profit organisation that seeks to contribute to positive outcomes for children, young people, their families, and communities where a parent has a mental illness or mental health challenges. Our programs and activities provide opportunities for peer support, connection, and skill-building through creativity.

About the position

The 0.6 FTE Youth Coordinator’s main role will be to maintain and build on the ways Satellite engages our program graduates (14+) over the longer-term. To do this, the Youth Coordinator will:

  • Establish and coordinate a youth advisory function at Satellite
  • Maintain and develop the Youth Pathways (the different ways young people with lived experience get involved and stay connected with Satellite and relevant external organisations)
  • Create a calendar of connecting events and activities (with broader team input) and encourage attendance
  • Support the Satellite team in other ways we engage with young people at Satellite

What you’ll need:

  • Lived experience as a young person who has a parent or carer with mental health challenges
  • A passion for putting the voices of young people at the heart of everything
  • Initiative to take an idea, run with it and make it happen
  • Ability to communicate with young people and in community and professional settings
  • Love of working as part of a team and taking on a leadership role
  • Microsoft office skills
  • Working with Children check

What would be a bonus:

  • A tertiary qualification in youth work, social work, peer leadership work or similar
  • Experience in organising and coordinating volunteer groups and /or activities
  • Experience in facilitating group conversations and programs, ideally with young people
