ABOUT US AND THE ROLE (summary)

As the peak body for Victorian sexual assault and harmful sexual behaviours services, Sexual Assault Services Victoria (SASVic) provides leadership in preventing and responding to sexual assault. This is a time of significant growth for SASVic, responding to profound changes in community attitudes to and government focus on sexual violence. We have recently changed from a network (CASA Forum) to a peak body, expanded our membership, taken on new projects and are working to shape landmark state reforms. We are now looking for new staff so we can better drive policy and practice change.

As Equity and Inclusion officer – LGBTIQ, you will help strengthen accessibility, inclusion and responsiveness for LGBTIQ people in sexual assault services, as part of a team focused on strengthening practice in our sector.

ROLES AVAILABLE

Because we are recruiting for several new positions, we have some flexibility - we may be able to negotiate the number of days you work or the make-up of roles. You may be able to combine two part-time roles. Feel free to apply for more than one position.

  • Tenure: one year
  • Salary: $75-85,000 pro rata
  • FTE: 2 days a week
  • Office location: Our office is currently in the CBD. We are currently sourcing a new office, which we hope will be in the CBD or close by.
  • Flexibility: This role requires dedicated days based in the office (restrictions permitting), with all staff being able to work on Tuesdays (for membership meetings) and Wednesdays (for internal staff meetings). There is flexibility for partial ongoing work from home and scope to negotiate working hours to accommodate caring or other responsibilities.
  • Travel: some travel may be required.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a new position, as part of a new project.

Our project aims to strengthen access by LGBTIQ people to high quality, rights-based and appropriate sexual assault services, by equipping SASVic members to develop and implement plans and/or other evidence-based mechanisms to remove barriers to access, service gaps and strengthen quality of services through greater accessibility, inclusion, and responsiveness for LGBTIQ people.

You will work closely with our member services and partners to undertake a sector scan to identify evidence, and evidence gaps, about LGBTIQ people’s experiences of sexual assault, including in the context of family violence, identifying both common and distinct experiences across groups. You will also identify good practice in specialist sexual assault services, and areas for strengthening practice. This will include running workshops, and providing members with resources to conduct case analyses in relation to LGBTIQ people. You will then identify and help develop evidence-based mechanisms to strengthen service accessibility for LGBTIQ people and resource our members to develop and implement these. To do this, you will develop resources, and develop and run training and other workforce development activities for our members. You work will inform our advocacy on the development of the state sexual violence and harm strategy and SASVic’s review of our standards of practice.

Key relationships

You will report to the Capability and Practice Development Team Leader, and develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with all SASVic staff to achieve our shared aims. You will work closely with our partners, including Rainbow Health Victoria, and our member agencies, as well as Family Safety Victoria.

Roles and functions

You will do this by:

  • Helping identify and share with members current evidence, and evidence gaps, about experiences of LGBTIQ people and sexual assault, including in the context of family violence.
  • Developing and using relevant tools or processes to conduct a sector scan, to identify issues for LGBTIQ people in relation to sexual assault, including in the context of family violence, and both good practice and practice gaps in relation to LGBTIQ people accessing specialist sexual assault services.
  • Conducting workshop/s, in collaboration with our partners, to seek members’ views, as well as working with members to resource them to carry out case reviews focused on experiences of LGBTIQ people.
  • Analysing the results of the sector scan to identify areas for policy and practice improvement
  • Supporting our members to develop and implement plans to ensure that they are safe and inclusive services for the LGBTIQ community’
  • Developing tailored resources, training and other workforce development activities
  • Providing advice to inform our advocacy on the development of the state sexual violence and harm strategy and SASVic’s review of our standards of practice.
  • Resourcing SASVic members to develop policy and practice improvements, including by providing secretariat support to relevant member working groups and communities of practice
  • Participating in organisational development activities required to support the growth of SASVic

What you bring to the role

  • Relevant formal qualifications or experience
  • Understanding of the shared and distinct issues for lesbian, gay, trans and gender diverse, bisexual and intersex people in relation to sexual assault, including in the context of family violence, and access to specialist sexual assault services
  • Well-developed project management skills, including time management
  • Experience developing and conducting training and developing resources
  • Experience conducting consultation
  • Excitement about being part of an organisation undertaking significant growth
  • Intersectional feminist understanding of the dynamics, causes and impacts of sexual violence, at an individual, social and political level
  • A deep commitment to ending sexual assault and to the rights and recovery of victim survivors

Familiarity with specialist sexual assault services, including Victorian centres against sexual assault, will be an advantage. Experience working in a membership organisation will be well received

Additionally, you

  • must be legally entitled to work in Australia
  • must have a current Australian police check (and international where applicable), and Victorian Working with Children Check
