The Self Advocacy Resource Unit (SARU) resources and supports Victorian self advocacy groups for people with an intellectual disability, people with an acquired brain injury and people with complex communication support requirements. Self advocacy groups are run by people with disabilities who have joined together to have their voices heard and to support each other. They work together to make sure they have the same rights, choices, and opportunities as anyone else.
This is an exciting fixed-term, part-time position until June 2020, with the possibility of an extension, subject to funding. You will work with, and take instruction from the newly establishing New Wave Bass Coast self advocacy group located in Wonthaggi, Victoria.
The position entails supporting New Wave Bass Coast self advocacy group to build its capacity and profile within the Bass Coast shire and to connect and network with New Wave Leongatha and New Wave Morwell self advocacy groups.
You will have a demonstrated commitment to the human rights of people with disabilities, the ability to work within the principles of community inclusion, empowerment and participatory decision making and an understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
A current police check and driver's licence are essential.
