Sands is seeking a State Coordinator to help grow and nurture our community of bereaved parents across Western Australia.

This role is 15 hours per week and is offered on a fixed term basis until October 2020 (subject to funding).

Sands provides peer support services on a 24/7 phone line and through digital and face to face groups. That means that when you seek our support, you will find a person with a lived experience there to talk to. We aim to be there in the most difficult of times and to walk the journey with bereaved parents as they establish life after loss and to do this our services go beyond our phone lines and support groups. We aim to create informal supports and a community that people can join when they need it.

We know it’s a tough subject, many of our staff and all of our volunteers have lived it. We know it’s not easy to talk about, we struggle every day to make it easier for people to even say their babies name and we know that bereaved parents deserve better. That is what drives us to continue with this work every day.

We are looking for someone with a deep understanding of what it is like to experience pregnancy or infant loss and a person who has excellent community development skills. Based in Kensington, you will take responsibility to support community engagement across WA, creating a warm and inviting environment and helping us expand our reach across the state.

It’s a busy job, and you will find yourself working at the strategic level one minute and then at an administrative level the next. You have to be willing to do whatever is needed and you will need a caring and compassionate approach to everything you do. You will need to be able to write a grant submission, organise a big event and be there with a box of tissues to support a bereaved parent when needed. Yep – we are looking for a superhero (or at least in incredibly organised multitasker with an ability to talk to everyone!)
