Safe Futures Foundation (SFF) is a not for profit Specialist Family Violence Organisation that provides services to women and children to help them escape control, abuse and violence and rebuild their lives. We have been responding to family violence and changing people’s stories for over 40 years. Safe Futures has grown to be the largest provider of refuge and crisis accommodation in Victoria - which includes three core and cluster refuges, 15 crisis properties and nomination rights to approximately 35 Transitional Houses. We employ staff across 2 main sites in Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs and 1 site in the Western Melbourne Region. We are funded by the Department of Health and Human Services and the generous support of donors.

The Organisation supports women and children experiencing homelessness from family violence, providing refuge and crisis accommodation, risk assessment and case management support and outreach case management support to clients in transitional properties and/or private rental.

Due to significant growth and realignment of services, we are seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join the team.

The core responsibilities of the role include:

  • Collaborate with the CEO in setting and driving organisational vision, operational strategy, and hiring needs
  • Translate strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth helping to implement organisation-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operating planning
  • Promote an environment that empowers and motivates staff to achieve organisational and service delivery goals
  • Oversee organisation operations and employee productivity, building a highly inclusive culture ensuring team members thrive and organisational outcomes are met
  • Lead with exceptional interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with the direct supervision of three site managers
  • Contribute to future development through monitoring community, business and operational needs and make appropriate recommendations for service delivery development.
  • Ensure legislative compliance in relation to service delivery and ensure service targets are met
  • Assess, and make timely and appropriate decisions on the provision of information, options and resources with regard to individual situations and circumstances and the ability to proactively respond and take action.
  • Provision of daily complex staff case management support and regular individual staff supervision
  • Assisting workers with workload management and the provision of quality and responsive practice
  • Participation in the back up on-call roster), and in some after hours service provision and/or Board of Directors meetings as required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Family Violence Service Delivery including ricks assessment, safety planning and case management

It is expected the COO bring the following:

  • Bachelor of Social Work or Behavioural Science/Psychology or Masters in Management/Business or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experiencing in working with women and children experiencing family violence
  • Proven experience as Chief Operating Officer or General Manager or similar role
  • Have previous experience managing a team delivering client services to women and children experiencing family violence or other case management services
  • Previous experience managing a team in a complex environment
  • Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
  • The ability to complete tasks accurately and efficiently
  • Exceptional organisational skills in order to juggle different tasks and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and strong oral and written communication skills

This role will be paid at Level 8 and above of the SCHADS Award. The successful applicant must be able to satisfy all probity checks required as part of the role, including police check, WWCC, and references.
