Personal Care Assistant

Sacred Heart Mission

Your future workplace

Every day of the year, Sacred Heart Mission assist hundreds of people who are experiencing homelessness or disadvantage to find shelter, food, care and support. We are in this for the long haul - we are committed to making a sustainable difference in people’s lives. Everyone is welcome at our table.

Your new role

If you’re looking for a career where no two days are the same, that has you making a real difference to our residents, this is the role for you!

As a Personal Care Assistant, you will provide high-quality, effective, and supportive care to our residents.

You will be part of a Casual or Permanent-Part-Time roster Monday - Sunday servicing Sacred Heart Mission's residential facility at 101 Grey St, St Kilda, with some weekend work also available. Our facility is state-of-the-art and has views all the way out to Luna Park.

A typical day would be

  • Providing personal care to residents within the Aged Care standards
  • Delivering care consistent with the Sacred Heart Mission philosophy, including Trauma Informed Care
  • Reporting any resident conditions to the Registered Nurse
  • Maintaining resident confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Entering information into the Resident Management System
  • Administrating medication for residents

Our residents are younger than those you might find at other aged care facilities, but often have mental health challenges or substance dependencies. This role will therefore be less physically demanding because our residents are more physically able.

Who we're looking for

Our ideal candidates will be comfortable managing complex behaviours, with knowledge and compassion. You will also be excited to learn and grow your career in aged care, taking full advantage of the great development opportunities this role offers you.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Certificate lll or IV in Aged Care
  • Current NDIS Workers Clearance
  • Current COVID-19 vaccination certificate which includes your booster
  • Medication competency is preferred but training can also be provided once employed.
  • Possess a compassionate, caring and supportive nature
  • Have a trauma informed approach to care
  • Have a genuine interest in and respect the unique personality, history and value of our residents

More important than qualifications or experience, however, is the right attitude. You will show initiative in your work and be enthusiastic about helping people and making their day better.

The perks of the job

This is an unparalleled opportunity to grow your skills within a warm and supportive team. If you are interested in further career progression,

  • Salary package expenses like your rent, holiday accommodation and dining out: up to $15,990 pre-tax
  • You get to work around your schedule
  • State-of-the-art facility
  • Work for one of Melbourne’s most highly regarded not-for-profits with excellent career opportunities
  • Help some of the most disadvantaged and most vulnerable people in our community
