Up to one in five expecting or new mothers will experience perinatal anxiety or depression. Affecting around 100,000 families across Australia every year. Left untreated, it can have a devastating impact on parents, partners, baby and the rest of the family. In the worst cases, lives can even be put at risk.
The Perinatal Emotional Health Program (PEHP) provides early intervention for women experiencing perinatal mental health problems. The aims of the service include to reduce stigma, increase access to mental health care, improve continuity of care, and include mental health care as part of normal care for women in the perinatal period.
Based in Shepparton and working in mainly the northern region catchment area you will provide outreach both to consumers’ homes and to community clinics. Conducting mental health assessments, treatment planning, brief interventions and assertive follow up to women in the perinatal period presenting with mental health difficulties, or who have identified as at risk of experiencing high prevalence perinatal mental health problems.
As a senior clinician you will contribute to community mental health planning and play a vital role in providing consultation, support and up-skilling primary care providers, midwives, antenatal clinic staff and maternal child health nurses in identification, assessment and management of perinatal mental health problems.
