Rural Workforce Agency Victoria (RWAV) has an opportunity for psychologists who are keen to make a difference in communities that are currently underserviced for psychological treatment in chronic pain and opioid dependence.

We are looking for clinical or registered psychologists who are willing to spend one to three days a week providing outreach services in priority communities in the Hindmarsh and Yarriambiack region of Western Victoria. You will see a variety of clients and be part of a project aimed at increasing the access to psychological treatment for pain management and decreasing levels of opioid prescription.

A generous stipend is provided, and compensation will be given for travel, accommodation and other related costs. Appointments will be arranged through referral from local health services. We encourage both rural and metropolitan-based psychologists to apply for the program.

While this program is intended to be delivered via face-to-face, service delivery arrangements will be flexible to navigate the challenges of COVID-19.

Your involvement will be part of a Chronic Pain Management Program funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health, aimed at:

• Supporting the delivery of outreach pain management specialist services in prioritised areas of regional, rural and remote Victoria
• Upskilling local primary care providers to improve prescribing habits and awareness of appropriate pain management treatment
• Reducing inappropriate opioid prescribing and resulting harms
• Reducing the chronic pain impacts being experienced by patients in regional, rural and remote communities
