We have a full-time role working 38 hours per week. The role is based in Cockburn, it may be required to travel between Ruah offices.

About the job

The Community Worker position offers support, either face to face or over the telephone, to young people and their families aged 12-25 years who have experienced a first episode of psychosis and who are supported by the Early Psychosis Youth Centre (EPYCentre). The Community Worker is expected work autonomously and to collaborate with Health Service Providers to develop functional recovery support interventions for these young people and their families which are consistent with best practice standards and evidence-based care and are in line with the strategic direction and vision for the EPYCentre. 

The ideal candidate will have an interest and experience in the provision of person-centred case management support to young people with serious mental health issues and is expected to manage a full caseload.

The role will suit someone who has:

  • Experience working with young people and families in a case-management capacity is highly regarded.
  • Experience working within an early intervention framework desirable.
  • Experience working with young people experiencing psychosis desirable.

  • Level 4 of the social home care and disability services award - $72,593-78,104 pro rata per annum depending on experience

You will have

  • Knowledge and experience in the provision of developmentally appropriate support to young people with a serious mental health condition
  • Knowledge and experience in the provision of evidence-based case-management to young people and their families.
  • Willingness and ability to work within and contribute to the vision, mission, core values and the guiding principles of the organisation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of diversity, gender and social inclusion, particularly Aboriginal culture.
  • Well-developed organisational skills including time management and setting priorities.
  •  Qualification or working towards a qualification in a physical health domain/ work experience which demonstrates strengths in the criteria listed below.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a recovery and personal support model to achieve positive client outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, liaise and advocate effectively with a range of community stakeholders in the delivery of a service.
  • Ability to engage and maintain professional relationships with clients with multiple needs and issues.
  • Well-developed computer skills in the Microsoft office suite program and Client Care system.
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex issues facing people who experience chaotic life circumstances such as homelessness, AOD use, family/domestic violence and mental health issues.
  • Experience in group facilitation and delivering education and training programs.
  • Demonstrated skills in assessments and counselling.
