Road Trauma Awareness Seminar Program Coordinator

Amber Community

The Road Trauma Awareness (RTAS) program began in 2004 and has had a significant impact on those involved. It has continued to be evaluated, refined, and continues to provide a program that meets participant needs. Road Trauma Support Services Vic (RTSSV) is committed to road safety and supporting the Victorian community so that no one has to experience the impact of road trauma.

RTSSV is looking for someone who is creative, flexible, is able to network and build relationships with key stakeholders and build on this well-respected program.

You will be a passionate worker who can work alongside a group of like-minded group facilitators across the State.

Previous experience working within the justice system is desirable, as there is a need to understand offending behaviour.

Supporting paid and unpaid staff across the region is an integral part of this exciting role, and as a state-wide service, there will be some out-of-hours work and travel across the State of Victoria.

The position is 26 hours per week, fixed-term June 30th, 2022 (extension likely and dependent upon the continuation of RTSSV's funding agreement), and the hours are flexible so that the role can be worked around a casual workforce.

The Road Trauma Awareness Seminar Program Coordinator supports all aspects of RTSSV's Road Trauma Awareness Seminar (RTAS) program, including developing, implementing, and evaluating the program provided to drivers with traffic offences or at risk of offending. The role requires an understanding of the justice system, road safety, and health services sectors and strong program development, training, and people management background.

The RTAS Program Coordinator will work with key stakeholders and staff to maintain and build on the current program and maintain policies, processes, and relevant reporting.

As the program coordinator, you will support and manage the program's employees and handle administrative tasks such as maintaining the program's budget, determining, and implementing policies and procedures, coordinating program-related internal and external communications, and organising and maintaining the program plan.

The RTAS program aims to bring about attitude and behavioural change and reduce recidivism. They are based on restorative justice principles and employ a cognitive behavioural approach using both volunteer speakers with personal experiences of trauma and presenters from the emergency services. The program aims are to:

  • Confront and evaluate participant belief systems in relation to traffic offending
  • Bring about a shift from blame to choice
  • Assist participants in identifying and managing precursors to offending
  • Provide peer discussion and problem-solving
  • Provide reality-based learning using volunteer/emergency service presentation

We offer a range of educational programs in the regions; please refer to this link www.rtssv.org.au/education.
