Regional Sport Victoria (RSV) is the peak body which represents and supports nine (9) independent Regional Sports Assemblies (RSA) across regional Victoria.

RSV exists to help its members to achieve outcomes that promote better, healthier and stronger regional and rural communities by driving participation in sport and active recreation in all of its forms.

It does this by:

  • Building Capacity: Strengthening its members to be more innovative, efficient, and effective
  • Advocacy: Developing state-wide strategic responses and advocacy for and on behalf of members and their communities
  • Growth: Attracting new funding streams to, for and through its members
  • Partnerships: Building new opportunities for collaborative partnerships

Through the work of its nine (9) RSA members, RSV is uniquely able to provide advice about the sporting and active recreation needs of regional Victorians, and the issues which affect them. RSV draws evidence for its advocacy from 48 local government authorities and regional health agencies covering all of regional Victoria: a population of over 1.45 million rural and regional Victorians and a network of over 6,000 community-based sport and recreation organisations.

Position Summary

The Youth Engagement Coordinator of RSV is responsible for collaborating with the 9 RSAs, to ensure that youth in regional Victoria can actively be engaged as designers, deliverers & participants of sport and active recreation programs & opportunities in their communities. Working with the nine (9) member RSAs, the key focus areas will be to:

  • Build the capacity and capability of all RSAs to meaningfully engage young regional Victorians in sport and active recreation
  • Identify and establish local and statewide partnerships with leading youth focused organisations and experts, underpinning future programming planned and delivered by RSAs
  • Support and enable young people to have a voice at the table and be meaningfully engaged in co-designing the work of RSV and its member bodies.
  • Support RSAs to increase the availability and accessibility of appropriate participation program offerings for young regional Victorians for physical activity and social connection benefits

Key Responsibility Areas

Working collaboratively across the Network, the incumbent will:

Capacity Building

  • Undertake an audit of youth focused programs conducted by all RSAs
  • Develop and implement an RSV youth engagement strategy and sample youth engagement and outreach policy
  • Promote a youth-led approach amongst RSAs and support this by developing a youth engagement, planning and evaluation toolkit
  • Support RSAs to develop skills in working with youth to co-produce programs and activities that will be supported by youth either within their existing work plans or via new funding
  • Provide RSAs with one-on-one support, coaching and mentoring on key program development and implementation strategies, including but not limited to:
    • Consultation and co-design with young people
    • Marketing and communications strategies to reach young people
    • Providing sport environments that are inclusive and welcoming to young people
    • Accessibility of programs to vulnerable and underrepresented groups
    • Work with VicHealth and La Trobe University’s Centre of Sport & Social Impact to understand evaluation findings from VicHealth investments targeting young people and translate these learnings to RSAs

Partnerships and collaboration

  • Identify and establish statewide partnerships with youth focused organisations
  • Assist RSAs to broker and maintain relationships with regional specific youth focused organisations

Support Participation Programs

  • Identify participation programs that could be replicated or scaled in other RSAs
  • Acting as a central contact for State Sport Associations, assist RSAs to deliver participation programs that will engage less active young people (12-17 years) to become more active.

Support young people to have a voice at the table

  • Explore the suitability of a youth advisory committee to inform and educate the work of RSV that has a focus on young people and implement with relevant partners if appropriate to do so, based on this exploration process.
  • Work with all RSAs to identify youth leaders and provide them with opportunities to inform their programming
  • Conduct one youth leadership summit for RSA staff under the age of 25.

Note: The incumbent can be expected to be allocated duties not specifically mentioned in this document, but within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

Additional Information

  • A six (6) month probationary period applies to this position
  • The incumbent will be required to travel as part of completing the required duties of the role. Any reasonable travel costs incurred will be reimbursed by Regional Sport Victoria and in accordance with the governing award
  • Flexibility in working hours is a condition of employment with some after-hours work required due to the nature of the sector. Any hours worked beyond the maximum allocated hours of employment will be provided for on a Time in Lieu basis.
