About the role

RSPCA Victoria currently have an exciting internal opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated leader to join our Animal Care team at Pearcedale.

Working alongside our leadership team, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of employees and volunteers in the provision of day to day care of shelter animals, contributing to the achievement of the best possible welfare outcome for every animal in our care.

In addition to this, the Animal Care Team Leader will perform operational duties involving the general care and handling of animals.

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in a leadership role with the ability to support a team of staff and volunteers;
  • Previous experience in an animal care role and high level animal handling skills and experience, including extensive knowledge of animal anatomy, behaviour, disease recognition and safe handling;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging work environment, whilst showing great care and compassion to the animals in our shelter; and
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment.

Qualifications & Other Requirements

  • The successful applicant must hold a valid Victorian Driver’s License;
  • The successful applicant must have a current tetanus vaccination or be willing to get a tetanus vaccination;
  • Applicants must also be willing to work over a rotating roster which includes weekends and public holidays as required; and
  • Holds or is willing to complete a Certificate II in Animal Studies (or equivalent).
