RSB supports people who are blind or have vision impairment to gain new skills, be engaged in life and grow confidence at home, at work and in their communities. Working together, RSB supports a culture of participation, meaning and purpose with the understanding that small changes can often have a powerful impact.

The RSB is looking to appoint a full-time Community Engagement Facilitator in our Noarlunga office to work collaboratively with people who are blind, or vision impaired to enhance their wellbeing and increase their independence.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be person-centred, progressive, proactive, and responsive to client and community needs and passionate about making a real difference within the community.
  • Assess individual client need and co-design individual community engagement programs for those who are blind or vision impaired.
  • Build awareness of vision impairment in the broader community by increasing client participation in mainstream community programs and events.
  • Maintain information about community resources and services available in local area which may be of benefit to those living with vision loss.
  • Ensure clients are empowered to make decisions for their own wellbeing by working collaboratively with the client to provide accurate, consistent, responsive, and timely information.
  • Identify where client need exceeds the service offering and, assist in education and referral to other disciplines with the community service team to promote maximum independence and autonomy.
  • Co-design and delivery of activities and programs for people who are blind or vision impaired.
  • Have at minimum Certificate 3 in Disability Studies or related field.
  • Understand and respect the linguistic and cultural diversity of the client.

A sound knowledge and understanding of vision impairment and empathy for people who are blind or vision impaired is highly desirable.

A satisfactory National Police and DHS Clearances and a current driver’s licence are required.

This position will require the ability to work out of normal hours with some evening and weekend work when required.
