Rocketship is an international health non-profit organisation, based in Australia, whose mission is ‘To share skills and work in partnership to achieve strong, sustainable primary healthcare systems in Pacific Island countries’.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, which sets the overall strategic direction of the organisation, the CEO is responsible for overseeing, coordinating and ensuring the success of Rocketship’s activities. The primary duties of the CEO are in the following key areas:

  • Leadership
  • Corporate Governance
  • Human Resource Management
  • Financial Management
  • Program Planning and Management
  • Communication and advocacy

Selection Criteria

As one of the leaders and most visible representatives of the organisation, the CEO must conduct themselves with the utmost professionalism, have strong communication skills and be intimately familiar with Rocketship’s mission and operations. Given the nature of the organisation’s work in health systems and developing countries, the CEO should be well-versed in the technical aspects of health and development.

The following attributes are considered essential for the CEO:

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English, with demonstrated high level of proficiency in preparing and presenting oral and written reports
  • Substantial leadership, governance and management experience, as well as practical experience and qualifications in health and/or development-related field(s)
  • High level of competence with online communications (email and web conferencing), as well as standard word-processing, presentation and spreadsheet software (e.g. M.S. Office – Word, Powerpoint, Excel)
  • Ability to communicate and function comfortably, competently, effectively and efficiently in multidisciplinary and cross-cultural settings

The following are considered desirable criteria:

  • Experience living and working in developing communities
  • Prior engagement with international health agencies or non-profit organisations
  • Research, management and/or field experience in relevant areas such as clinical care, public health and community development

Conditions of employment

The CEO will be employed on a pro-bono, part-time basis to a 0.2 full-time equivalent (FTE) level.
