Our Support Worker positions are open to anyone with a genuine interest in working in community mental health and share the organisation's values.

Who Are We Looking For?

As a Support Worker, you will work in the community and support people with a lived experience of mental health to achieve their hopes and dreams! This is an entry-level position, suitable for people with some experience in mental health and are interested in working towards gaining qualifications as a Peer Worker or Mental Health Worker.

This role is for you if:

  • You are undertaking a relevant Certificate qualification and are looking for practical experience working in the community with people with a lived experience of a mental health issue; or
  • You have previous experience in a relevant field but haven't undertaken formal study and would like to be supported to gain a Certificate IV in Peer Work or Certificate IV in Mental Health Work (Non-Clinical).

What Will You Be Doing?

The Dubbo Unit is a 10 bed mental health inpatient service located on the grounds of Dubbo Base Hospital. This program works in partnership with staff from the Western NSW Local Health District to promote recovery and positive change by providing access to:

  • A structured, supportive and safe environment;
  • A range of contemporary, multidisciplinary mental health interventions, programmes, services and treatments informed by evidence based best practice;
  • A selected professional team that works together with people, their family, carers, key supports and community partners to establish a dynamic, person-centred approach informed by principles of recovery; and
  • A service that assists people to develop their capacity to live independently in the community and reach their potential.

On a day to day basis, you will:

  • Listen to and partake in activities that meet the interests and goals of people.
  • Encourage shared learning experiences and support skill development at every opportunity through self-directed learning, information and education.
  • Ensure all aspects of service delivery are provided in consultation with the key worker, are strengths based and person-led wherever possible.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, be non-judgmental, be fair, patient, have the willingness to listen, and display empathy.
  • Self-reflect and constantly review work practices.

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated interest in supporting people with a personal lived experience of a mental health issue in the community.
  2. A strong commitment to, and emerging knowledge of, recovery-based practice in the workplace.
  3. Willingness to complete a Certificate IV in Peer Work or Certificate IV in Mental Health Work (Non-Clinical) within 12-months.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge and alignment with Flourish Australia's values.
  5. Basic computer literacy and knowledge of data information management systems.
  6. Willingness to meet the NSW Health Category A immunisation requirements.
  7. Maintaining a current Australian Driver’s Licence.
