About us

The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world. Using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, we deliver extensive primary healthcare and 24-hour emergency service, from nine strategic bases, to those who live, work and travel throughout Queensland.

The role

Reporting to the CEO, the Head of Fundraising and Philanthropy has responsibility for significantly growing fundraising and philanthropy revenue to support RFDS and its organisational strategic initiatives. As a key member of the Leadership team the role provides strategic thought leadership to overarching organisational capacity building needs.

Key focus areas include:

  • The successful delivery of annual fundraising and philanthropy income targets in line with the developed fundraising strategy.
  • Management of a high-performing fundraising & philanthropy team, supporting and advocating for best practice fundraising.
  • Development of donor and relationship centred fundraising initiatives and communications.
  • Management and promotion of the RFDS Foundation endowment program and achievement of its identified and agreed capital raising goals in conjunction with its Foundation Board.

About you

You have proven leadership and relationship skills with demonstrated experience in building a successful fundraising program across all fundraising functions including; regular giving, major donors, bequests, corporate partnerships, and community fundraising. You will lead your team to achieve ambitious fundraising targets, whilst providing a strong level of mentoring, development and support to your direct and indirect reports.

Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications required for the role:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Fundraising or Philanthropy or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated record of achievement, with between 5-10 years of experience, managing and implementing a comparable sized program.
  • CEO and Board interface experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all fundraising functions including; bequests, major gifts, regular giving (Face to Face), and corporate partnerships
  • Proven success from your oversight of innovative philanthropic and bequest strategies.
  • Exceptional oral, written communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience and/or understanding of the needs of rural and remote communities, indigenous cultures and the capacity to work productively with same.
  • Ability to develop and implement new fundraising strategies and build long-term client and stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated high level leadership, organisational and people management skills and the ability to prioritise key objectives.
