headspace Cairns is a welcoming safe space for young people aged between 12 and 25 providing access, support and information for a broad range of concerns, including mental health, physical/sexual health, drug and alcohol, employment and education and support for families and carers. headspace Cairns (under the direction of RFDS (Queensland) Services Limited) has been making a difference in the lives of young Australians since 2006.
headspace Cairns is currently looking for a Community Engagement Officer to reach out to young people and their communities. This role will provide mental health education, increase mental health literacy, build community awareness and connect people to the appropriate services. The Community Engagement Officer will plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a range of education and health promotion activities. These activities will be designed to increase early identification of mental health challenges faced by young people and to help them get early access to the right services.
As the Community Engagement Officer, you will work closely with our clinical team to understand the services provided by headspace. You will advocate for our services to both young people and the wider community. In addition, you will;
This opportunity is full-time on a maximum term contract until June 2025 with the possibility of an extension in line with ongoing funding.
The community engagement officer is based in Cairns. However, there may be a need to travel to the Tablelands and Innisfail areas. We will provide you with a company vehicle to undertake community engagement activities. We are looking for a team member who can be flexible in attending community events that are scheduled after hours and on weekends.
We are seeking a confident self-starter knowledgeable in community engagement to influence positive outcomes. You will be focused on helping us do things ‘the headspace way’, living our values of Inclusion, Collaboration, Agility and Excellence.

Successful candidates will be subject to a criminal history check and may be required to undergo a medical assessment. You will also be required to complete the headspace and RFDS immunisation program where you will need to provide evidence of immunity or vaccination against Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPD).
