Reverse Garbage Queensland is currently seeking a creative and well organised Environmental Arts Workshop Facilitator. We are seeking someone who is passionate about educating people on issues of sustainability and the environment through our eco-art workshop program. This is a casual position with frequency of engagements determined by workshop demand. This is typically high during school holiday periods (so availability at these times is important), low in February, and steady throughout the remainder of the year.
Reverse Garbage Queensland is a non-profit re-use centre located in Woolloongabba, Brisbane. We collect high quality industrial discards from a wide range of industries around Brisbane, diverting them from landfill to make them available at low cost to the community through our warehouse at 20 Burke Street. Our workshop and visual arts program uses these materials to encourage the creative and practical re-use of salvaged resources.
The position involves preparing and packing for workshops, driving the workshop van and delivering workshops for schools, child care centres, community groups and festivals both on and off-site. We also conduct workshops for adults that focus on specific reuse craft skills.
The successful applicant must be available for occasional Saturday and Sunday shifts to cater for festivals and special event workshops, though these are generally scheduled months in advance. Penalty rates apply for weekend work as per the General Retail Award.
Experience running workshops is preferred, however we will provide training on how to facilitate our particular brand of eco-art workshops. We are looking for someone who is capable of working on their own, but also enjoys working as part of a team and has a flexible, adaptable approach to their work.
Essential skills / experience:
Reverse Garbage Queensland is a worker-run co-operative and applicants with an interest in the potential to play a significant role in the management of our co-op by, in time, becoming a director of it, will be favourably regarded.
Remuneration: This is a casual position. The base wage rate is $27.91 per hour and is based on the general retail industry award.
