An exciting opportunity exists for you to work with Reinforce, the longest-running self-advocacy organisation in Australia, run by and for people with intellectual disability.

ABOUT REINFORCE

Reinforce is Australia’s longest running self Advocacy organisation run by and for people with intellectual disability. We promote the rights of people with an intellectual disability to be upheld in the same way as everyone else in the community. Reinforce runs training, creates resources, lobbies government, holds forums, and promotes socialising and networking.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Project Worker will help set up the Reinforce Self Advocacy Training Unit as part of the Information, Linkages and Capacity Building Project. You will provide 1:1 support for Peer workers, facilitate training, help develop new resources, and assist in capacity building for both the organisation and the Peer workers.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

A demonstrated commitment to the human rights of people with disabilities, the ability to work within the principles of community inclusion, empowerment and participatory decision making. An understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) ILC program. The ability to work well with other people, skills in time management, setting priorities, planning and organising, well-developed written and verbal communication skills, and good computer skills, including an understanding of website management.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • A commitment to, and understanding of, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability.
  • An understanding of the disability sector, self-advocacy or disability advocacy.
  • Experience in working with people with an intellectual disability.
  • An understanding of accessible communication formats, including Easy English.
  • A commitment to making sure people with an intellectual disability lead and are involved in and make all decisions.
  • Experience in running projects.
  • Skills in developing and running training.
  • An ability to develop and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • Formal qualification in Social Work, Community Development or equivalent or relevant experience.
