Reef Catchments is currently seeking a Project Officer (Indigenous Identified) with experience in the Natural Resource Management Industry for our Reef Assist Project. The Reef Assist project will provide short, medium and long term economic and environmental outcomes to the Reef Catchments region by providing the community with new skills, resources and opportunities to protect and enhance its land and sea assets.

The Role

The Project Officer will:

  • Investigate opportunities, identifying partners and funding for the development of an Indigenous ranger program across the region.
  • Provide upskilling and training to Traditional Owners for bushfire management, to improve disaster resilience across the region. 
  • Identify and focus on natural and cultural heritage management opportunities and outcomes.
  • Build and maintain productive partnerships in the development and delivery of projects, with a focus on Traditional Owners, farmers, community groups and government agencies.

Selection criteria

Essential

  • Experience in developing and/or implementing Cultural Heritage Management Plans, Indigenous Ranger Programs and/or Caring for Country Plans.
  • Good project management experience.
  • Strong relationship building, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with influence, to a diverse client base including landholders, industry groups, government and contractors.
  • A deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and peoples, particularly around procurement, workforce, and community engagement. 
  • Prior experience in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Current manual Driver’s Licence.
