Reef Catchments is currently seeking a Project Officer - Biodiversity (Indigenous Identified) with experience in the Natural Resource Management Industry. The Role

Join a dynamic and versatile team to support coastal and biodiversity Natural Resource Management (NRM) projects and outcomes in the Mackay, Whitsunday and Isaac region. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with partners and stakeholders in the prioritisation, planning and implementation of on ground outcomes for the coastal and island locations across the region. The project provides a strategic and coordinated approach to managing our coast and island areas.

Key Responsibilities for the position

The Project Officer – Indigenous & Biodiversity will:

• Support the Coasts & Biodiversity Team to develop and implement the regional coasts program focused on improving coastal, wetland and island management practices and community engagement to achieve improved ecosystem outcomes.
• Coordinate the development and delivery of priority projects for the improvement of ecological function and condition of Threatened Ecological Communities with Traditional Owners, working groups, industry, local government, state government, landholders and stakeholders.
• Contribute to the development of funding proposals and programs.
• Collect, coordinate, and manage data, and spatial mapping to monitor and report on implementation and improvements through Threatened Ecological Communities projects.

Selection Criteria

Essential

• Project management experience, with a focus on natural resource projects, including responsibility for site assessments, operational planning, works supervision, budget management, stakeholder management, monitoring, and evaluation and reporting.
• Knowledge and experience in one or more of:
  • wetland ecosystems and management
  • coastal and/or island habitats and restoration
  • marine ecosystems and management
• Building and maintaining productive partnerships in the development and delivery of projects, with a focus on Traditional Owners, farmers, community groups and government agencies.

• Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with influence, to a diverse client base including landholders, industry groups, government and contractors.

• Current manual Driver’s Licence.

Desirable

• A deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and peoples, particularly around procurement, workforce, and community engagement.
• Prior experience in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
• Experience in developing and/or implementing Cultural Heritage Management Plans and/or Caring for Country Plans.
