In the daunting and unpredictable experience that follows diagnosis, a child needs as much stability and support from their family as possible. Redkite is a lifeline for families, providing real emotional, financial and practical support. Because holding it together when your child’s life is in question can feel impossible.

The role:

Reporting to the Snr Social Worker – Team Lead, this full-time role will provide intake, assessment, psychosocial support and therapeutic counselling to children and young people (up to 18 yr) with a diagnosis of cancer, their families and support networks. 

In addition, this role may be involved in the planning and delivery of both telephone based and face to face support groups. Due to the nature of the work, some evening and weekend hours maybe required with the organisation’s time off in lieu policy to compensate for this.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide best practice psychosocial support and therapeutic counselling
  • Support and contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of service projects and programs
  • Promote and utilise an evidence-based approach to clinical and project work; consult and critically appraise evidence to inform practice
  • Work effectively and collaboratively as an integral member of the Community Support Team and the wider Services Team
  • Take a lead in developing local relationships with hospitals and other service providers
  • Utilise well developed communication, consultation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills to work collaboratively within a dynamic national team
  • Work within a practice framework that is compatible with a strengths-based approach
  • Ability to exercise leadership in the delivery of services by communicating vision, aligning strategy with outcomes, taking responsibility and accountability by supporting appropriate governance

About you:

  • A tertiary Social Work qualification recognised by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

  • Eligibility for membership of the AASW

  • An ability to exercise independent professional judgement to facilitate professional and clinical decisions

  • An ability to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external key stakeholders in relation to optimising service delivery outcomes
  • Casenoting and record-keeping skills
