The Redcliffe Area Youth Space (RAYS) is seeking a passionate and committed youth and family worker to coordinate the Youth Access Moreton Bay Initiative (YAMBI) program. We are hoping to meet client-centred, hard working and innovative professionals from a variety of relevant disciplines to join an organisation delivering meaningful outcomes with young people aged 12-21 who are often vulnerable, disengaged and have experienced or are experiencing significant trauma and poverty. Applicants must demonstrate a willingness to proactively engage disengaged young people with a range of complex psychosocial issues and embed themselves in the local community. This role will require some work out of business hours, home visits and a strong focus and understanding of psychosocial support and community participation outcomes. It also requires knowledge of a variety of service systems (such as education, justice, child safety, etc) and strong advocacy skills.

About the role

This position is to deliver the YAMBI program. The Youth Access Moreton Bay Initiative (YAMBI) is an early intervention & prevention service focusing on individual and family support, mentoring, and case management to young people. Target outcomes include, but are not limited to, employment, increased attendance at school or training, family reunification and increased service involvement and participation. The position will work closely with programs and team members across the organisation. The program design prioritises youth engagement and relationship building as the means of achieving outcomes; as such, a flexible approach to service delivery will be expected with workers typically undertaking home visits and/or sessions in other places in the community such as the courthouse, schools, cafes or parks. While it is psycho-social in nature, it will have a strong focus on care coordination, case conferencing and advocacy. It will also require the successful applicant to work closely with families. All workers will be expected to actively participate in care coordination meetings, and in regular multidisciplinary team case reviews. Some group work will also be required.

The position is a full time, maternity backfill for a period of 8 months. Pay scale $65,000 - $75,000 + super + salary packaging to the value of $15,900 pa.

Requirements of the Role

  • Four year degree with relevant experience or three year degree with two years of relevant experience (such as social work, community development, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience in biopsychosocial assessment, support planning and interventions
  • Extensive experience in youth engagement
  • Extensive experience in working with families
  • Experience in case conferencing/care coordination
  • Robust knowledge of and experience in social inclusion/community participation outcomes with young people
  • Ability to work flexibly
  • Ability to work outside of business hours on occasions
