About headspace and RAV:

headspaceis the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing. This covers core areas including mental health, physical health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services.

Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV) is the lead agency for headspace Wonthaggi, which is governed by a consortium of local community organisations who provide expertise, support and advice to RAV. RAV is a secular, community-based, not-for-profit organisation with no religious affiliations. Our vision is for positive, respectful, safe and fulfilling relationships for all Australians. Our objective is to relieve suffering, distress and helplessness and to enhance physical, social and emotional wellbeing. RAV provides services from 19 centres in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, and from additional outreach locations. The corporate support team is based in Camberwell.

About the role:

Reporting to the Centre Manager the responsibilities of this role are to effectively engage, screen, assess, refer, provide brief interventions and to coordinate care for young people aged 12-25 years who are referred to the headspace centre. The role is part of a multi-disciplinary team including general practitioners, allied health clinicians, community engagement workers and support staff.

In response to COVID-19, service provision may include video appointments and teleconferencing, with a transition to face-to-face work based in Wonthaggi in the future. The successful candidate will be working part-time four (4) days per week on a fixed-term contract until June 2021. Pending funding review and contractual obligations, this employment contract may be extended at a later date.

Qualifications and Registrations:

  • Tertiary level qualifications in health, behavioural/social sciences, community services, or a related discipline.
  • Current full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) or current full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) is preferred.


  • Ability and experience to undertake intake and screening activities to determine client needs, and to assist clients to access appropriate services.
  • Ability and experience to conduct risk assessments, including suicide and violence risks, and to develop action plans that mitigate these risks.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health, including related evidence-based interventions and clinical practice.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse range of people, the ability to engage with young people and advocate on their behalf.

A competitive sector remuneration package is on offer to the successful candidate with a base salary range of $83,563 (pro-rata) per annum, superannuation and access to PBI tax-free salary.
