This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, experienced psychologist who wants to enhance mental health services for youth within the East Gippsland and Wellington region.

About headspace and RAV:

headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing. This covers core areas including mental health, physical health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services.

 

Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV) is the lead agency for headspace Bairnsdale including the newly funded headspace Sale Satellite service, which is governed by a consortium of local community organisations who provide expertise, support and advice to RAV. About the role:

Reporting to the Centre Manager headspace Bairnsdale, the purpose of the Youth Access Worker position is to effectively engage, screen, assess, refer, provide brief interventions and to coordinate care for young people aged 12-25 years that are referred to the headspace centre. In response to COVID-19, service provision will initially be completed via. video appointments and teleconferencing. The work conducted in this role will then transition into face-to-face work including physical outreach into East Gippsland when advised safe to do so.

The position will be based at the headspace centre in Bairnsdale or Sale and will be on a part-time, two (2) days per week, fixed-term contract until 30 June 2021.

Qualifications and Registrations:

  • Tertiary level qualifications in Psychology that provides a sound understanding and knowledge of assessing and working with young people at risk.
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) as a provisional or fully qualified Psychologist

Experience:

  • The ability and experience to undertake intake and screening activities to determine client needs.
  • The ability and experience to conduct risk assessments, including suicide and violence risks.
  • Ability to deliver brief therapeutic interventions, counselling services and treatment planning.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health, including related evidence-based interventions and clinical practice.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse range of people, the ability to engage with young people and advocate on their behalf.
