This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, experienced counsellor to join Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV) in this important role with staff who have been delivering effective client focused services and outcomes for over 70 years in Victoria.

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Manager Gippsland, your responsibilities include delivering services under the Gippsland Primary Health Network Mental Health Supports for Bushfire Affected Australians program which is aimed to support individuals and communities affected by the 2019-2020 bushfires. Specifically, the delivery of the Frontline Emergency Distress and Trauma Counselling, which provides emergency mental health care for people affected by bushfire for individuals, families and emergency service personnel.

All RAV counsellors need to be guided by evidence-based, trauma-informed practice and able to implement interventions, good theory and research, able to choose interventions that are most likely to bring about sustained positive change. Complex cases may require some case management.

An exciting part-time opportunity, four (4) days per week until 30 June 2021 with a possible extension dependent on funding. The successful candidate will be based in Bairnsdale providing weekly outreach into East Gippsland Communities impacted by bushfire. Overnight stays in East Gippsland will be required. Accommodation will be provided, and travel costs reimbursed.

Skills, experience and qualifications

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a related discipline including family therapy, social work, counselling and psychology.
  • Previous supervised professional experience in counselling.
  • Demonstrated application of therapeutic modalities relevant to working with individuals, couples and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to use therapeutic interventions and use appropriate good assessment tools.
  • Understand and be able to practically apply relevant legislative regulations.

A competitive sector remuneration package is on offer to the successful candidate with a base salary range of $89k-$93k (pro-rata) per annum, superannuation and access to PBI tax-free salary packaging.
