About the role

Reporting to the Senior Manager Gippsland, you will be supported to work flexibly with children in individual and group settings at off-site locations. As a Child Counsellor and Therapeutic Case Manager, you will apply your skills and experience to effectively provide intensive, early intervention mental health counselling and therapeutic case management support for young children under the Gippsland Primary Health Network Mental Health Connect Me program. This program provides services using the stepped care model based on a Family Action Plan as well as a facilitated referral pathway for the child/ren’s family members to relevant support services where mental health risk factors are emerging.

This position will be based out of our centre located in Traralgon with the expectation to provide outreach counselling and services offsite within schools and early childhood centres in the local regions. It is available on a part-time basis, three (3) days per week on a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2023, with a possibility for extension dependent on funding.

Skills, experience and qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Counselling or relevant area.
  • Significant demonstrated experience working with children and families, from a child-centres and strength-based perspective, in a setting relevant to the role.
  • Knowledge of the development of mental illness, and the risk factors that contribute to the development of mental illness in children and young people (advantageous).
  • Familiarity with the child protection system, local mental health services (advantageous).
  • An understanding of childhood development and the impact of adverse life events on children’s development., trauma framework including intergenerational trauma (advantageous).

What we offer

A competitive salary package is on offer to the two successful candidates with a base salary range of $88k to $90k (pro-rata) per annum, superannuation, and access to salary packaging.
