About the Role

Boasting country to coast lifestyle in sunny North Queensland, this role is based at our Greater Townsville Region venue.

We are currently seeking applications for the part-time role (approximately 18.75 hours per week) of Children’s Contact Service (CCS) Family Support Worker.

The purpose of this role is to assist with the activities of the CCS, which helps facilitate contact arrangements, supports children and their family members during changeovers or supervised visits, and provides a safe and secure environment for the child/ren.

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Apply theoretical models of supportive human interaction, developmental stages of children, conflict resolution, and other relevant frameworks when working with children and parents, whilst maintaining child inclusive practice
  • Undertake assessment and intake processes, including parent interviews, explanation of safety procedures, and familiarisation visits for children
  • Organise a safe and appropriate environment, and activities for children that maximise parent/child interaction and engage children in an interesting, calming and positive manner
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions for parents and children accessing CCS, assess the future need of the family in managing the ongoing parental relationship, and refer parents to appropriate services and programs as required

Work days/hours will be negotiated with the successful applicant, however please note that the position holder will be required to work weekends and evenings, with some flexibility, to meet the CCS program requirements.

About You

To be successful in this position, you will have appropriate tertiary qualifications in the social or behavioural sciences, with studies in child development being essential. You will have demonstrated experience working with children and their parents/carers and have theoretical knowledge of the issues regarding child development, abuse and/or neglect; and experience working with people in crisis and/or parents in conflict. In addition, you will have possession of, or willingness to obtain a Senior First Aid certificate.

The annual salary offered is up to $82,500 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) plus super dependant on experience. Salary packaging options will significantly increase the value of take-home pay.
