The Organisation:

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) is the leading standards body responsible for the training and education of specialists and GP obstetricians in obstetrics and gynaecology in Australia and New Zealand.

RANZCOG is committed to the establishment and maintenance of the highest possible standards of practice in women’s health and provides programs in training, accreditation and continuing professional development (CPD) that are responsive to the evolving health care needs of women.

RANZCOG supports research into women's health and act as an advocate for women's healthcare by forging productive relationships with individuals, the community and professional organisations, both locally and internationally.

Individuals appointed to a College committee must comply with the RANZCOG Code of Conduct and conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the standard of professional and ethical behaviour expected by the College.

The Role:

  • To provide a consumer’s perspective on the College’s Reconciliation Action Plan

The Committee: Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group

The Reconciliation Action Plan working group is a group of members and staff from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists who are responsible for the development, implementation and progress of the RANZCOG Reconciliation Action Plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a consumer perspective on the College’s development and implementation of the Reconciliation Action Plan.
  • Work with the Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group to develop meaningful and practical strategies for reconciliation initiatives
  • Ensure that the Reconciliation Action Working Group is aware of, and recognises the implications of, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community perspectives
  • Act as a source of information on issues affecting the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community that may be considered by the Reconciliation Action Working Group
  • Provide advice on how RANZCOG can best acknowledge and embrace Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in an appropriate manner
  • Facilitate consultation between internal and external stakeholders as it pertains to the College’s Reconciliation Action Plan

Key Selection Criteria:

Please note: Due to the nature of this role, applicants are required to be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. This is a genuine occupational requirement for this position, which is exempt under Section 14 of the Anti-discrimination Act.

Essential:

  • High level of understanding and awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and issues
  • Strong linkages and networks with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups and communities.
  • High level communication skills.
  • Good judgement and the capacity to contribute in a collaborative manner to the work of the Reconciliation Action Plan Working group
  • Ability to analyse issues and judge their effects on the relevant consumers.
  • Availability to participate in meetings at College House, Melbourne, or by teleconference or videoconference as required.

Desired:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience developing and implementing Reconciliation Action Plans
  • Proven ability to engage with Aboriginal organisations, communities and individuals to foster productive and harmonious working relationships

Qualifications:

As an Ideal Candidate you will have:

  • Aboriginality (Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act of 1977).

  • To contribute consumer perspectives as part of the development and implementation process of the Reconciliation Action Working Group to ensure appropriate consideration has been given to relevant issues.
  • Ensure that the committee is aware of, and recognises the implications of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in the development of the College’s Reconciliation Action Plan
  • Facilitate more diverse perspectives at a strategic level
  • Act as a source of information on issues affecting the community that may be considered by the Working Group
