We support people living with a disability heal from trauma of abuse through counselling and therapeutic case work. We support all those engaging with the Disability Royal Commission as they prepare and present their story.

Your new role

You’ll support people who have told their story, are waiting to tell their story or want to provide a submission to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability. This includes family members, carers, and support workers of people with a disability.

You will recognise everyone’s experience of trauma is different, as are their needs. Your value is in listening and being of support. Using a trauma informed counselling approach, you will provide information and referrals to improve the well-being of your clients. Sessions are face to face, by telephone, or video-call.

The details

  • Full time position based in Wollongong
  • Contract to June 2021 due to increase demand
  • $37 to $42 p/h plus super plus salary packaging

About you

As an experienced Counsellor you will have:

  • Understanding of the history of disability care provision, including institutional care and of the issues/ barriers faced by People with disabilities,
  • Adaptable clinical approach to meet clients where they are at and walk with them as they engage with the Royal Commission
  • Ability to provide trauma-informed counselling / therapeutic case work services face-to-face, over the phone and online without impacting service quality,
  • Strong professional boundaries and self-care practices; when we are at our best, we give our best.
