About the Program

Building Stronger Families (BSF)– Working with Refugee and Migrant Communities to Increase Family Safety is a partnership project to deliver culturally adapted Men’s Behaviour Change Programs, to specific refugee and migrant communities in their own language in Western Sydney. In collaboration with cultural leaders/stakeholders and communities, we deliver a culturally responsive model focused on improving family safety and strengthening family relationships, whilst building on cultural strengths and taking into account settlement issues.

What you’ll do

Relationships Australia NSW and Settlement Services International are seeking skilled and enthusiastic staff for a joint project funded through the Domestic and Family Violence Innovation Fund (Women NSW).

We are seeking Group Facilitators to work specifically within the Building Stronger Families Project. Cultural expertise and bi-lingual skills are a requirement including Arabic, Farsi and Dari.

The work is suitable for professionals experienced in facilitating psycho-educational groups for men, women and families, particularly people from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provision of group-based programs in language, including working with men and women, and in some instances children and families in groups
  • Close liaison with the Community Engagement Program Coordinator (SSI) in delivering BSF programs, promotion to/engagement with community, and facilitating referrals into the groups
  • Create culturally safe and responsive client service
  • Contribute to the implementation and evaluation of programs
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of program resources

Successful candidates will be required on a casual basis with flexible working arrangements, potentially including after hours and weekends. Hours/days of work will be discussed with the successful candidates. The employer will be Relationships Australia NSW unless candidates are SSI employees already.

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience as a bi-lingual group facilitator/community educator
  • Skills, experience and understanding in key group work program areas, particularly working with migrant and refugee families, issues of Family Violence, risk assessment and safety planning
  • Capacity to use self reflection, clinical supervision and professional development to improve clinical practice and co-leaderships
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including bi-lingual skills fluent in English as well as fluent Arabic, Farsi and Dari speakers
  • Able to work collaboratively within a team based workplace
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualifications in the human services area (Social Work, Community Service, Psychology, Counselling) and group work training is desirable
