Purpose and context:

2RPH is a volunteer driven community radio station that is committed to providing a radio reading service to people who cannot read independently, or easily handle or understand printed material. Additionally, many people listen to 2RPH while they are driving or working whilst others enjoy the diverse program and style of delivery provided by 2RPH.

Based in Glebe we read newspapers, magazines and books and broadcast across Sydney, Newcastle and the lower Hunter region to over 100,000 weekly listeners. The station is on air 24 hours each day and has over 200 volunteers who prepare, produce and present all the programs.

The overall purpose of the role is to raise the profile and reputation of the station through effective communications to listeners, volunteers and relevant community sectors, using digital and print content, social media and PR.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic communication:

Lead the roll-out of all communications and promotion in line with the 2RPH Communication strategy

  • Plan and implement communication campaigns to coincide with the launch of new broadcast and podcast programs or other initiatives, promoting them to relevant interest groups and sectors
  • Advise the organisation on developments in relation to digital media convergence and the resources required to remain competitive.

Communications:

  • Create regular communications for internal and external stakeholders and distribute across various platforms
  • Be responsible for the enhancement of the website and manage all technical difficulties, liaising with a variety of internet related suppliers regarding upgrades, and licences
  • Source and generate images for promotional purposes and be responsible for all procedures relating to acknowledgements, storage, captioning and permission to publish
  • Produce all communications in line with accessibility standards
  • Report website metrics and social media interaction on a regular basis
  • Develop media releases, generate stories for external interest
  • Maintain supply and good order of the digital assets and other promotional tools e.g. brochures, banner, flag etc
  • Promote special projects as required
  • Maintain and further develop the media contacts database
  • Attend to all administrative matters associated with the position.

General

  • Maintain high quality, accurate and clear work files and fulfil the administrative requirements of the position
  • Participate in and contribute to organisational evaluation and planning sessions, including:
    • Staff meetings
    • Annual planning meetings
    • Ad hoc meetings with staff, Board of Directors and/or stakeholders
    • Be familiar with the vision, mission, strategic direction, overall structure and services to speak knowledgeably on behalf of 2RPH
    • Contribute to whole of organisation celebrations and 2RPH events.
