headspace Wagga Wagga provides early intervention mental health services to young people between ages 12-25 years old, along with assisting in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing through the provision of effective, evidence-based interventions. At the earliest possible point when the problem emerges, services are provided across four core streams: primary health, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and social/vocational support.

The focus of the Senior Vocational Specialist is to implement the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) within headspace Wagga Wagga. The Senior Vocational Specialist will work with young people who experience barriers to employment and/or education to support them to achieve their vocation and/or education goals. The Senior Vocation Specialist will also be responsible for ensuring seamless data collection and to support the headspace manager in the completion of reports. This will involve assertive outreach work combined with excellent youth engagement skills to ensure young people are well supported and are linked to suitable employment opportunities.

Your new role

In consultation with the Manager, headspace Wagga Wagga, the Senior Vocational Specialist is to:

  • Provide specialised individual career development services that support young people to gain employment.
  • Assist young people to attend job service provider and Centrelink appointments if applicable.
  • Ensure the IPS fidelity model is adhered to and support headspace manger in the preparation of all fidelity review process with DSS.
  • Ensure seamless process for data collection and provide written reports and data reports to headspace Manager in preparation for reporting.

What you’ll need to succeed

  1. Tertiary qualifications including relevant professional registration as required and/or experience in employment services, vocational rehabilitation, career development or a related field.
  2. Experience in mentoring and supervising staff and within the Vocation and Education industry or similar supervision experience.
  3. Experience in data collection and preparing reports for Government bodies as per funding guidelines.
  4. Extensive knowledge of issues that impact young people when accessing employment and/or educational opportunities.

This is a full- time, fixed-term position to 30 June 2024, with the possibility of extension, based in Wagga Wagga, NSW.
