About the role

In this role you will provide AOD interventions and group work to individuals on community supervision orders within Corrections’ offices, who are also affected by substance use and other related concerns such as mental health. 

The Drug and Alcohol Counsellor will support clients by:

  • providing AOD interventions that utilises evidence-based therapeutic modalities for the achievement of client identified goals
  • facilitating and/or co-facilitating psychosocial education and support groups in Queensland Correctional Centres and the Community.
  • providing harm reduction and other health promotion services
  • ensuring client data is entered to a high standard
  • collaborating with QCS officers to support achievement of client centred goals

What we're looking for

Someone who is passionate about their work and the health outcomes of both clients and the broader community and can demonstrate:

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Tertiary qualification (e.g. Cert IV or above) in a relevant field
  • Ability to engage clients on community supervision orders (Parole and Probation)
  • Ability to achieve a successful Criminal History Check + Admin Form 27A (Application to Visit) - as required by Queensland Corrective Services
  • Current Queensland driver's licence (or equivalent)
  • Due to the vulnerable population we serve, employees at QuIHN are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19
