Senior Lawyer - Court & Tribunal Services

LawRight’s Court and Tribunal Services in the Queensland Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts and Court of Appeal coordinates pro bono resources to provide unbundled legal assistance, pro bono referrals and mediations for parties, together with representation in selected matters.

We seek a Senior Lawyer to support the service to deliver high quality legal services in civil matters in the State Courts office and assist with the management of the service.

Duties include:

  • Conducting and supervising legal casework, including managing client intake, undertaking case assessment, providing advice to clients, providing support to volunteer lawyers, and supervising service staff and student volunteers.
  • Managing the general running of the State Courts office.
  • Identifying the development of new projects or procedures, contributing to research and policy development.
  • Participating in the general activities of LawRight.

Experience/skills:

  • Knowledge of Queensland court rules and procedures, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
  • Litigation experience an advantage.
  • High level oral and written communication skills.
  • High level organisational and computer skills.
  • Flexibility and initiative suitable for working in a team environment with limited resources.
  • Strong commitment to access to justice and compassion for marginalised and vulnerable members of society and an interest in issues confronted by self-represented litigants.

Formal Qualifications:

Admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland or capable of immediate admission. Holder of current unrestricted QLS Practicing Certificate (or interstate equivalent). Minimum 3 years post-admission experience desirable.

  • Location: Brisbane
  • Classification: Level 6, Social and Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award 2010
  • Benefits: Leave loading and six weeks annual leave pro rata plus 10% superannuation. Eligibility to salary sacrifice up to $30,000 (grossed up) of income to personal and entertainment expenses.
  • Term: Contract until 30 June 2025. Continuation beyond this date is subject to LawRight funding and resources.
