Queensland Positive People is seeking an HIV/STI Test Facilitator to work out of the RAPID clinic within the Townsville Sexual Health and HIV Service.

The primary purpose of HIV/STI Test Facilitator position is to provide HIV/STI testing and education to people who believe they may have been at risk of contracting HIV. This will require the delivery of time-limited interventions that involve conducting appropriate test procedures, discussion of sexual health strategies and the delivery of results.

A significant requirement of this position is the provision of immediate support to newly diagnosed clients and providing the necessary assistance to link the client into HIV care and treatment. Due to the one-on-one nature of client interactions, HIV/STI Test Facilitators are expected to maintain a high-level knowledge of all aspects of HIV prevention and the HIV care continuum.

The goal of the RAPID program is to increase the testing frequency of people at risk of acquiring HIV in order to reduce the proportion of PLHIV who are unaware of their status. RAPID program staff will work collaboratively to achieve this goal by using a non-invasive model of testing where clients are invited to ask questions about HIV or the window period, but they do not need to provide details about their sexual or injecting history. This model of testing is ideal for those who are disengaged from health promotion messaging and those who delay testing due to discomfort discussing risk behaviours. It is also unique in its ability to seamlessly triage newly diagnosed HIV cases directly into QPP case management and Peer Navigation services that assist newly diagnosed individuals to navigate the complex environment of HIV care and treatment. All RAPID program staff will work with and contribute to the outcomes achieved by other QPP program areas by supporting the needs of all QPP client enquiries and aiding the development of various community projects that occur throughout the year.
