Queensland Conservation Council is the state’s peak non-government environment group. Our mission is to protect our natural environment and climate and make Queensland communities more sustainable.
We achieve our goals by advocating to the government, engaging with the community and informing through the media. We apply the latest scientific research to develop policies. We monitor progress and rate the performance of governments, their programs, and companies, holding them accountable to their commitments to the environment. Incorporated in 1969, we are a non-profit community organisation with no political affiliations.
We have a membership of almost 60 environment groups throughout Queensland, who we consult and coordinate with. We’re growing, with 15 staff, and an ambitious plan to grow the Environment movement in Queensland.
The Queensland Conservation Council is seeking a Coal and Gas Campaigner to lead the organisation’s campaigns to minimise the negative impacts of the fossil fuel sector on our climate and communities.
As an integral member of QCC's Climate Team, the Coal and Gas Campaigner will spearhead campaigns that focus on methane reduction and the broader climate implications of coal and gas operations in Queensland.
Your responsibilities will encompass the strategic design and execution of communications and advocacy campaigns aimed at reducing methane emissions, providing expert guidance on policy matters related to coal and gas, and engaging with various stakeholders to promote climate ambition across the State. You will monitor regulatory developments and the approval process of new mines within Queensland preparing arguments and responses where necessary.
Engaging with the media, supporters and the general public is a pivotal aspect of your role. You will work closely with the Digital Communications Specialist to develop comprehensive engagement strategies, organise awareness campaigns, and craft compelling content for diverse platforms to effectively convey the importance of methane reduction and ending fossil fuel use to the media, stakeholders, and the public.
Collaboration with stakeholders from diverse sectors will be vital for success. Through partnership-building and collaborative efforts, you will cultivate widespread support for methane reduction and sustainable practices across the State.
To excel in this role, you should possess a proven campaigning and knowledge of Queensland's coal and gas industry. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, are indispensable. Strong collaboration and stakeholder management abilities, coupled with strategic thinking will also be required.
