Project Officer - Engage-In

People With Disability Australia Limited

ABOUT PWDA:

People with Disability Australia (PWDA) is a national disability rights organisation. Its membership is made up of people with disability and organisations primarily constituted by people with disability. PWDA was founded in 1981, the International Year of Disabled Persons, to provide people with disability with a voice of our own. PWDA has a cross disability focus – we represent the interests of people with all kinds of disability. PWDA is a non-profit, non-government organisation. We employ over 50 staff with 30% working in regional areas.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Engage In Project builds upon the learnings of PWDA’s Enable In Project to connect people with psychosocial disability in closed institutional settings to NDIS and mainstream supports. These settings include psychiatric hospitals, prisons, and boarding houses.

Engage In utilises assertive outreach strategies to address the policy, procedural, cultural, and other structural barriers that frustrate access by people with psychosocial disability in closed institutional settings to NDIS and mainstream supports.

Engage In creates collaborative relationships with key stakeholders (people with psychosocial disability, family members, significant others, mental health services, NDIS agencies, housing providers, government departments, etc.).

The Engage In Project Officer will work collaboratively with the Project Manager and other PWDA staff to support the smooth running of the Project. This will include assertive outreach to people with psychosocial disability in closed institutional settings, participating in the Project Advisory Group (PAG), the Community of Practice and the action research component of the Project.

This role will start as work from home arrangement due to COVID-19, with a plan to transition to the PWDA office in Surry Hills, depending on public health situation. This is a full-time role of 35 hours per week. It will be a maximum term contract role until 30 June 2022. Award Classification is Level 5 under the Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Award 2010. PWDA pays above Award, and the salary on offer is $86,913 per annum plus salary packaging and superannuation.
